The Supreme Court today asked the Assam government to publish the second and final draft of the NRC on or before July 30. Originally slated to be out by June

The Supreme Court today asked the Assam government to publish the second and final draft of the NRC on or before July 30.

Originally slated to be out by June 30, the NRC final draft was delayed due to the recent devastating floods in Assam that resulted in shifting of many NRC seva kendras. In fact the Government had also cited that due to floods the work of the update process of the NRC was hampered.

The apex court has also asked the Assam chief secretary and DGP to review security of NRC state coordinator Prateek Hajela and file action taken report within 7 days.

The Supreme Court, meanwhile, has also asked the Assam Government not to include family members of declared foreigners, those included as D Voters as well as families of those whose cases are being taken up by foreigners’ tribunals in second and final NRC draft.
