Flood claims two lives in Tripura; 76 relief camps established across state

Flood situation remains grim in Tripura as incessant heavy rains have led to flooding in several areas of the state.

The situation worsened with two deaths reported; one from Khowai district and a six year old from Gurdadda area of South District.

National Disaster Response Force, Assam Rifles and other central and state government agencies are engaged in relief works in several areas of the State.

In an attempt to ease the burden, Chief Minister Biplab Deb visited some of the affected areas in Unakoti and Kailasahar to take stock of situation as well as to inspect the progress of the flood relief work.

The chief minister has also said that 76 relief camps have been set up across Tripura to provide shelter to more than 13,000 people.

National Disaster Response Force, Assam Rifles and other central and state government agencies are engaged in relief works in several areas of the State.

The Chief Minister has also urged all the public representatives from the state to monitor and assist in the flood relief operations and requested all the people residing in low lying areas to move to safer places.

More than 24 thousand people took shelter in camps after being rendered homeless due to floods across Tripura. Above 500 houses reportedly have been damaged in the floods.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Manik Sarkar along with two other CPI(M) MLAs toured the affected Gondachra area of Dhalai district.
