Workers of the Lepetkatta tea estate in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district held a massive protest this morning against the controversial selling off of twelve McLeod Russel India Limited Tea estates

Workers of the Lepetkatta tea estate in upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district held a massive protest this morning against the controversial selling off of twelve McLeod Russel India Limited Tea estates in upper Assam’s Tinsukia and Dibrugarh districts. The protest was spearheaded by the All Assam Tea Tribes Students’ Association.

The McLeod Russel’s decision to sell 12 tea gardens a few days earlier in eastern Assam’s districts of Tinsukia and Dibrugarh led to outcry among the Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha.

Pawan Singh Ghatowar, President of ACMS called for an immediate meeting in Dibrugarh district and criticised McLeod Russel for taking the decision without consulting the concerned association and the government. He also said that the tea growing company hasn’t cleared the revenue as well.
