In an attempt to curb the growing menace of the spread of fake news via social media, the Meghalaya government has issued an order thereby urging the people of the state to not indulge in the practice of circulating false rumours and malicious opinions on various social media platforms.
The District Magistrate of West Garo Hills has thus advised people to refrain from such activities and has also asked the people to report any such messages that are doing the rounds to the Police authorities.
The recent mob lynching incident in Assam that claimed two innocent lives, has sent shock waves across the region and the governments of the other north-eastern states are tightening their vigil against such false rumours.
