Trouble torn Shillong saw flag marches by the army as the forces were called in to contain the situation in the pine city. Army conducted flag marches in the city in the evening and also later in the night to maintain vigil all over the city. Barring a few minor incidents of stone pelting in some parts of the city, the situation has remained relatively peaceful so far.
Talking to the media, Lieutenant General Depinder Singh Ahuja, General Officer Commanding of the 101 Area said that the army was called in for assistance by the deputy commissioner. Ahuja further said that the army had conducted successful flag marches on Friday and yesterday flag marches were conducted between 4 to 7 pm in the evening and at about 9:30 pm later in all the disturbed areas of the city.
The GOC also made an appeal to the youth of the city to come together and end the ongoing turmoil as soon as possible. He also added here that the misguided youth indulging in violence should show some maturity and let normalcy return. Ahuja further commended the police and CRPF companies for doing a “wonderful job” in maintaining the situation in Shillong.
