Shillong tension: Tourist vehicle comes under attack

The Thursday incident seems to have had a rippling effect as we have fresh reports coming in that tourist vehicles have been attacked by miscreants along the Guwahati-Shillong highway. Commuters seem to be at the receiving end of the violence that has erupted in Shillong.

Shocking reports of tourist vehicles being attacked by miscreants have come to light. Stones were pelted on a tourist Sumo and passengers attacked by miscreants in Mawlai area of Shillong. A driver of a tourist cab alleged that the around 10-15 miscreants attacked the vehicle with stones and weapons.

All 10 passengers including a woman who was inhumanly attacked and a child were injured in the incident. The driver revealed that at least 3-4 vehicles were attacked by the miscreants.

The tourist taxi service has been worst affected following the violence in Shillong that prompted the authorities to impose curfew in several parts of the city with commuters facing adversity with fewer taxis willing to travel to Shillong. In fact it has been learnt that many a taxis are dropping passengers outside Shillong city unwilling to venture into the Meghalaya capital.

Meanwhile, tourists back in Shillong have been the worst affected following the violent protests that led to imposition of curfew in several parts of the city close to Bara Bazaar. Tourists are stranded in hotels not taking a chance to venture out in the wake of the situation.
