The AASU continued with its belligerent posture against the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill even after a meeting with the Assam Govt today where Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal once again assured the delegation that his government would do everything possible to protect the interest of the indigenous people of the state.
The meeting between the State govt and the agitating organisations was held at the initiative of Sarbananda Sonowal. However, at the end of the 90 minute meeting AASU adviser Sammujjal Bhattacharya said the AASU will continue with its agitation unless the government decides to drop the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.
The Assam cabinet also took up a few key decisions during the cabinet meeting which included approval to the recommendations of the anomalies committee, setting up a children’s hospital, besides approval to reservation of 2 seats in MBBS courses in medical colleges of Assam. These include 2 seats each for Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Mizoram.
