AGP continue to oppose Citizenship (Amendment) Bill

The Asom Gana Parishad has reiterated its opposition to the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill.

Putting forward the idea that the Meghalaya government had decided to oppose the Bill in a cabinet decision; AGP president Atul Bora urged the Sarbananda Sonowal led government to follow the foot-steps of the Conrad Sangma government.

The AGP president who also holds a cabinet berth in the Sarbananda Sonowal government disclosed that the party will put forward specific demands in regards to this before the Assam chief minister ahead of the next cabinet meeting. Atul Bora further expressed his concern over the assurances made to him by Home minister Rajnath Singh during a meeting in the national capital days back.

Besides, AGP president Atul Bora also disclosed that the party has already collected 50 lakh signatures in opposition to the Centre’s idea of pushing the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 that provides for granting citizenship to migrants from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
