At a time when Assam is on the verge of boil over the vexed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, the Union Home Ministry has assured that before taking any decision with regards to the proposed Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, the people of Assam will be taken into confidence.
This was disclosed by Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal following a meeting with home minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi today. Sonowal, who was in Delhi for a crucial NRC meet, also informed that the Centre and the Assam government are working jointly in close coordination for timely publication of the NRC.
The final list of the NRC will be published on the date set by the Supreme Court, Sonowal assured. Adequate security forces will also be deployed to ensure law and order is maintained in the state post NRC list publication.
Sonowal also said that the Home Ministry has assured to implement Clause 6 of the Assam Accord that provides for Constitutional, Legislative and Administrative safeguards to the Assamese people. Sonowal added that a committee will be constituted very soon to look into the implementation of the Clause 6 of the accord.
