A major step has been taken to protect the value of Assam’s prized Sualkuchi silk clothing.

The Sualkuchi brand of silk, which had faced challenge from the influx of cheap imitation Benarasi silk saris, has now finally received the much deserved trade mark from the Central government.

After long going efforts and requests by various groups, the Sualkuchi brand of silk finally gets its own trade mark.

This was revealed to the media by the Sualkuchi Weavers Welfare Association. Now any attempt to sell fake clothing under the brand of Sualkuchi silk will invite penalty from the law.

This step by the Centre would act as a major deterrent to imitation clothing’s under Sualkuchi silk banner.
