Barely a month after the Union Home Ministry said that the Northeast has become much peaceful, a recent sensational communiqué, exclusively accessed by Northeast Live, the same Ministry – the Union Home Ministry has alerted the authorities in Assam about an increased threat of Islamist radicalization in the State and said that the Hizbul Mujahideen terror group was engaged in recruiting cadres from Muslim-dominated areas.

The Home Ministry note says radical elements were using certain events during the Assam Agitation of the eighties and the subsequent communal clashes to motivate local Muslim youths.

The Home Ministry alert sent to the police chiefs and the civil administration in Assam, Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh a few days ago, confirmed that Qumer-Uz-Jaman, a youth from Jamunamukh in central Assam’s Hojai district has indeed joined the Hizbul Mujahideen.

This development, that of the youth joining the Hizbul terror group in Kashmir was reported in details by Northeast Live. Significantly, the Home Ministry also talked about a booklet in Bengali titled “Afghanistane Ami Allah Ke Dekhechi” being circulated in some parts of western Assam’s Bongaigaon district.

This booklet, available so far on the Web, provokes Muslims to join jihadists. The Assam Police is aware of the existence of the booklet and is considering restricting its access through the net.
