Two unarmed cadre of the banned militant outfit Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) surrendered before Meghalaya Home Minister James Sangma in the state police headquarters yesterday.
The surrendered militants have been identified as Aiborlang Thongni and Rishalin Syiemlieh who joined the outfit in 2006 were living in Bangladesh since then and also got married.
Reportedly, after having enough of the hardship and persistently running around, the duo decided to join the mainstream and surrendered before police yesterday.
Meanwhile, welcoming the move state Home Minister James Sangma said that peace is returning to the state. Sangma also assured that the government will welcome all those who would abjure the path of violence and will also provide them rehabilitation.
However Sangma further stated that the state government will not hold any negotiations with any outfit until they shun violence and join the mainstream.
