The raging protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill has reached Assam’s premier Dibrugarh University, with student leaders taking an unprecedented decision of banning the entry of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and his ministerial colleagues into the campus until they come up with a clear stand against the proposed bill.

The students at the university, Sonowal’s alma mater, have stepped up their movement
against the proposed bill despite an assurance from the Chief Minsiter that he and his government would do everything possible to safeguard the interests of the people of Assam.

It is quite noteworthy here that it was from Dibrugarh University only where Chief Minister Sonowal began his political career as a student leader. But today all sorts of banners are being waved there against Sonowal and his government for failing to act tought against the Centre’s move with the bill.

While carrying on the protest against the proposed Bill, the university students union leader David Hazarika and five other students shaved their heads. A protest rally was also taken out by the university students along with the teachers.
