Smugglers being innovative; Use hume pipes to pass through Indo-Bangla fenced border

Karimganj police have arrested two Bangladeshi smugglers. The incident happened at Kandi village near the India-Bangladesh border.

A group of seven smugglers had entered into Indian territory after passing through the barbed fences on the border through the means of a hume pipe in between.

Police, acting on a tip off, laid ambush and succeeded in capturing two of the smugglers gang while the rest managed to escape.

One police personnel was injured after being attacked by the smugglers. The two arrested have been identified as Atabur Rahman and Shamsul Islam.

The arrested Bangladeshi’s have confessed to carrying out cattle smuggling along the border since four years.

They also confessed to using hume pipes between the border fences to enter into Indian territory at will.
