The Centre yesterday sanctioned Rs 480.87 crore as flood relief for Assam to meet up with damages suffered in the deluge last year. The calamity relief was approved by a high-level committee headed by Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

The Home Ministry approved a total of Rs 1,161.17 crore calamity relief for four states States — Rajasthan, Assam, Himachal Pradesh and Sikkim along with the Union Territory of Lakshwadeep.

According to a notification issued by the Home Ministry, while Assam will get Rs 480.87 crore to compensate flood damages, Rs 67.40 crore has been kept aside for Sikkim to compensate for floods and landslides.
