A village in Assam remains submerged in flood waters for almost a period of eight months. Hundreds of village residents survive in these pathetic conditions.
This is the condition of Bhetukandi village, one kilometer from Silchar town in Cachar district. The people of this village have been living in such deplorable conditions for almost 20 years now.
The village faces flood like conditions due to water logging for a period of almost eight long months of the year, and the dry winter months are also no exception.
The pathetic conditions exist due to lack of proper drainage system and dumping of garbage at the nearby Mahisha lake.
With no intervention from the authorities in all this time, the villagers continue to live under such miserable conditions.
