In a shocking incident two women were physically assaulted by tea estate labourers and other villagers at Bandarchalia tea estate of Titabar in Assam’s Jorhat district for allegedly practicing witchcraft.
The incident took place on Sunday morning after three persons of the tea estate died after suffering from a “mysterious” disease on Saturday night.
Agitated labourers of the tea garden along with other villagers claimed the three persons died after the two women performed “sorcery” in a nearby field during the night.
The mob physically assaulted the two women after branding them witches before they were rescued by Titabar Police.
Incidentally, the mob followed the rescued women to the police station where they continued their slaps, punches and kicks and even attempted to disrobe them.
However, the police intervened and saved the lives of the two women.
