Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has finally broken his silence on the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill issue.
Sonowal said his government will do everything possible to safeguard the interest of the people of Assam. Sonowal said this in a tweet after meeting editors and senior journalists at his residence in Guwahati this evening.
The Assam chief minister’s statement assumes significance as it is seen as an attempt by his government to remove the apprehensions in the minds of individuals and groups in the state who feel that the bill is not going to be resisted by the BJP-led govt.
Meanwhile, highly placed sources revealed that the chief minister will soon meet civil society groups and students bodies to discuss the issue.
