Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to inaugurate the Pakyong Airport in Sikal city of Sikkim later this month.

The formal announcement on the same was made by Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu via a tweet. Reports say that the airport could also be used by the Indian Air Force in case of military requirement.

The greenfield airport, close to the capital city of Gangtok had received the aerodrome license from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation last week for commercial operations.
