The Assam Congress on Wednesday dared the Asom Gana Parishad to quit the Sarbananda Sonowal cabinet if the party was really opposed to the controversial citizenship amendment bill and said the regional party headed by Atul Bora was trying to fool the people of Assam by pretending to be against the bill of granting citizenship to Hindu Bangladeshis.

He supplemented his attack by citing that the party already knew of BJP’s intention of floating the bill but chose to remain silent to be able to form government at the time, said APCC president Ripun Bora.

Echoing similar sentiments, former Chief Minister of Assam Tarun Gogoi also took a direct dig at the AGP by questioning why they are not quitting the alliance instead of waiting for the bill to pass. “Resign now if you really want to make a statement”, said Gogoi.
