The Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 has found support from Buddhist body representatives who were in Guwahati to attend the 1st International Buddhist Conference organised by Global Buddhist Foundation.
Sulekha Kumbhare of the National Commission for Buddhist Minority said Buddhist people facing persecution in neighboring countries should be given citizenship and shelter in India.
Stating that the persecuted should be welcomed and deserve shelter, general secretary of Chakma National Council of India Hemanta Larma said the problems of the region have never been aggravated by the persecuted minorities. Instead, it has been the opposite.
The first international Buddhist conference was held in Guwahati today. Delegates from Japan, Malaysia, Sri lanka and Nepal attended the conference.
Various government officials, social workers and academicians around the country also were a part of the Conference.
