Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday met union home minister Rajnath Singh over the ongoing process of updating the National Register of Citizens.

Chief Minsiter Sarbananda Sonowal soon after his meeting with the home minister revealed that the Home minister Rajnath Singh took stock of the progress made on updating the National Register of Citizens.

The Home minister further asked the chief minister to ensure all measures be put in place so that the second phase of updating the NRC goes on a smooth manner.

CM Sonowal reiterated that the updating of the citizens register was progressing smoothly under the supervision of NRC co-ordinator Prateek hajela.

CM sonowal also maintained that the Centre and the state government was extending all possible assistance so that the process of NRC updating passes off peacefully.

The chief minister was accompanied by chief secretary TY Das, DGP Kuladhar Saikia besides other senior officials of the Assam government.
