The Assam government today appointed Special DGP, law and order, Kuladhar Saikia as the new Director General of Police of the state.
Saikia, a 1985-batch IPS officer of the Assam-Meghalaya cadre, will take charge from incumbent DGP Mukesh Sahay on his superannuation on April 30.
It is to be mentioned here that Assam’s new DGP was awarded with the prestigious KATHA AWARD in 2000 and the Sahitya Akademi Award in 2015 for his short stories.
Saikia is also the initiator and Nodal officer of Assam Police community empowerment initiative called Project Prahari to curb witch-hunting in Assam. He is also the founder member of the Economic Policy Research group called Assam Prakalpa.
