Several students’ organisations in Manipur took to the streets demanding the appointment of a local as the state’s chief secretary.

A joint protest march was organized by members of the Democratic Student Alliance of Manipur or DESAM, the Apunba Iramdam Imagi Meiheiroi Singpanglup and All Tribal Students Union of Manipur or the ATSUM in Imphal demanding appointment of a local IAS officer as the Chief Secretary of the state.

DESAM president , Salam Aakash said if the government does not heed to their demands, they will intensify the agitation. Suresh Babu is the current Chief Secretary of Manipur.
