CBI arrests Income Tax Commissioner

The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested Income Tax Commissioner of Guwahati, Shwetabh Suman in connection with the multi-crore tax evasion scam. Suman was arrested in New Delhi on Friday.
The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested Income Tax Commissioner of Guwahati, Shwetabh Suman in connection with the multi-crore tax evasion scam. Suman was arrested in New Delhi on Friday.
Shwetabh Suman was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50 lakh and passing favorable orders in tax assessment of a businessman belonging to a Delhi-based shell company.
While the money was seized from the officer, searches were also conducted on the premises linked to him in Guwahati, Jorhat, Shillong, Noida and Delhi.
Meanwhile, all the 4 arrested – Chartered Accountants – Ramesh Goenka and Amit Goenka and businessman Suresh Agarwala and Shwetabh Suman have been remanded to a 3-day CBI custody.
As part of the operations, CBI sleuths late on Thursday night arrested a senior tax official Pratap Das from Jorhat in Assam.
