Tension erupted in Silchar town of Assam following violent clashes between two irate mobs late Thursday night.

Police personnel who soon reached the spot to control the situation also came under the attack of the furious mob forcing the police to retaliate with baton charge and blank firing.

Seven persons were injured in the incident. The mob went on a rampage in the area vandalizing several vehicles.

Meanwhile the police have arrested 6 persons. The two groups clashed and also pelted stones as hundreds of people marched towards the town virtually creating a war like situation.
