The CBI has blown the lid off a massive tax evasion scam in Assam and intensifying its crackdown. The apex investigating agency carried out multiple raids at Guwahati, Jorhat, Nagaon, Shillong, New Delhi and Noida.
The CBI in this regard has filed cases against Commissioner of Audit Dr Shetabh Suma, Ramesh Goenka, Amit Goenka-both Chartered Accountants and businessman Suresh Agarwala.
As part of the operations, CBI sleuths late Thursday night arrested Pratap das, senior tax official in Jorhat district of Assam. According to reports, the senior income tax official was arrested on charges of evading taxes.
Meanwhile, a raid was carried out at the residence of the senior Income Tax officer until this morning at Krishna Nagarin Hojai district.
According to the chargesheet filed by the CBI more people are involved in the scam and that director of M/S Win power Infra Private Limited Suresh Kumar Agarwala had resorted to anomalies while filing income tax returns for the year 2017-18.
Besides, it has been revealed during CBi investigations that Agarwala alongwith the income tax officials had evaded taxes running to the tune of several crores.
