The roots of inter-state car-lifters have been traced to Manipur with East and West Imphal districts as their operational bases. The car-lifters forged documents and got stolen vehicles registered in different parts of the state, raising apprehensions of transport department officials assisting them.

The Delhi police have busted an inter-state car lifting racket with its main base centered in Manipur. The kingpin of the racket is a sacked constable of India Reserve Battalion from the state who have now landed in police dragnet.

The sacked police official identified as Mohd Fakruddin turned to crime by forming a gang to steal vehicles from south and west Delhi. Police disclosed that the gang sold more than 50 luxury vehicles after driving it to Imphal and selling it at half the price.

Apart from Singh the police also arrested Sorokhaibam Chorjit Singh, Asker Ahmad a resident of Imphal and Abdul Gaffar Khan who was caught with eight country-made pistols and 16 cartridges.

The gang also stole expensive motorcycles from south Delhi and sold them in Imphal with fake documents. Khan is an expert in forging National Crime records Bureau reports and drafting duplicate registration certificates for transporting stolen vehicles from Delhi to Manipur. An associate would take a few days to drive the vehicles to Manipur after which each of them would be sold for Rs 3-5 lakh.
