Indian wrestlers are setting ablaze Gold Coast in Australia with one after another podium finish. Rahul Aware gave India it’s first gold of the day by beating Canada’s Steven Takahashi in the men’s freestyle 57 kg category final match.
The day began with shooter Tejaswini Sawant winning silver in the women’s 50m rifle prone finals followed by Indian wrestlers winning four medals, with Sushil Kumar and Rahul Aware clinching gold. Sushil displayed vast technical superiority over the south African to clinch the top honours and take India’s medal tally in wrestling to 4 with two gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal.
Wrestlers Babita Kumari Phogat and Kiran settled for silver and bronze respectively. With Seema Punia and Navjeet Dhillon winning silver and bronze respectively in women’s discus throw event, India ended the day with seven medals overall.
In badminton and table tennis, Saina Nehwal and Manika Batra advances to the next rounds. Day 8 concluded with India crashing out of in women’s hockey after they lost out with Australia in the semi-final clash. India still stands at third position in the overall medal tally with 31 medals including 14 gold, 7 silver and 10 bronze.
