In yet another incident, a minor was raped in Duliajan of Dibrugarh district. The 13 year old victim is an orphan who was working as a domestic help in the rape accused’s home. The rape accused, identified as Dharma Humesh was thrashed by the public and is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital.
Shockingly, this was not the first time the girl was physically assaulted by her employer. The atrocity that had been going on for as long as two months, which came to light only when the minor complained of an abdominal pain to her maternal uncle last Tuesday. Her uncle later took her for a medical check-up only to find out that the minor was already 3 months pregnant.
In recent times, Assam has seen an alarming rise in heinous crime against minors. Even northeastern states like Arunachal Pradesh have witnessed several incidents of rape and violence, particularly against minors.
