Bollywood actor Salman Khan has had an on and off tussle with the law. Be it the hit and run case or the 1998 Black buck poaching case, the actor has always been in news for all the wrong reasons. Today, the verdict of 1998 Black Buck Poaching Case is out and Salman has been pronounced guilty.

Salman along with his co-stars Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Neelam Kothari and Sonali Bendre were accused of killing two blackbucks in Kankani village near Jodhpur back in 1998 while shooting for ‘Hum Saath Saath Hain’.

The court today convicted Khan handing him a five-year jail term and a penalty of Rs. 10,000. However it is to be noted that it is a bailable offence. Talking about the other accused, all actors namely Saif Ali Khan, Tabu, Sonali Bendre and Neelam Kothari have been acquitted.

The Bollywood superstar was taken to Jodhpur Central Jail where he will spend the night. His team of lawyers has already moved a bail petition in Jodhpur Sessions Court. The court will hear the petition tomorrow (April 6).

Inside the court room:

Prosecutors kept on demanding Jail for 6 years for Khan to which Salman’s lawyer asked the judge to consider Salman’s Social Service. The Prosecution didn’t stop, supporting its demand, It urged the judge to look back at times when Salman was held guilty in lower courts.

The debate over 6 years in jail continued, with prosecution not listening to Salman’s Lawyer who persuaded the judge for a two year term.  Supporting its demand, prosecution said that Salman’s a repeat offender, to which Salman’s lawyer couldn’t say anything but states how the actor has been acquitted in past cases by Higher Court.

Meanwhile, a lot is at stake and if the actor is actually jailed for 5 years, the entertainment industry might incur a loss of approximately one thousand crore.

The verdict has left many Salman Khan Fans disheartened. Back then, The bishnoi community filed a complaint against the actor and exactly 10 days later on October 12, Salman was arrested but was later granted bail.

After 8 years, On april 10, 2006, Salman was convicted by a trial court but and in August 2007 even Rajasthan High Court didn’t pronounce verdict in Khan’s favour. Khan had to spend a week in Jodhpur Jail. Later, Rajasthan High Court suspended the sentence after Khan’ appeal.

In 2014, Supreme Court challenged Rajasthan High Court’s decision. After which, Rajasthan High Court acquitted Khan in July 2016 saying there wasn’t any proof against Khan. However, the case reopened the same year in Novemenber 2016 after Rajasthan Government filed a plea and Supreme Court there after fast tracked hearing.

Back in January 2017, Khan was acquitted in Arms Act case by Jodhpur High court however today, Khan has been convicted in the poaching case.
