Five persons have been killed in Madhya Pradesh and one in Rajasthan during the Bharat Bandh called by Dalit groups to protest the alleged dilution of SC/ST prevention of Atrocities Act.
In fact the Punjab government has ordered the suspension of bus services and mobile internet services to control the situation. Dalit organisations across the country called a ‘Bharat bandh’ on Monday to protest a recent Supreme Court ruling “diluting” the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
The protests left 5 people dead in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena, Bhind and Gwalior. A total of 6 people killed in the protests so far, hundreds have been detained across the country to control the situation. Reports suggested that anti-social elements turned the protest violent in several states.
