Human trafficking major concern in Northeast : Maneka Gandhi

Union Minister for Women & Child Development, Maneka Gandhi who is on a three day visit to Sikkim will chair a meeting with Anganwadi workers and other women and child development affairs authorities at Manan Kendra in Gangtok.

Earlier on Monday, Gandhi said that the government will pass the anti-human trafficking bill in the parliament through which minors involved in the crime will be sentenced adequate term. The Union Minister also mentioned, “Human Trafficking as a major problem in the Northeastern region and steps are being taken to curb the crime”. The statement came on Gandhi’s second day of her three day visit to Sikkim.

Gandhi also visited the Integrated Child Development Services centre in Gangtok and showered praises saying that compared to other states the ICDS centre in Sikkim is far ahead in terms of education and infrastructure.

The minister also visited Freedom shelter home, Women Helpline centre in Lumsey, Mamatalya and Rainbow children’s Home in Gangtok followed by her meeting with Chief Minister Pawan Chamling at Mintokling on Monday.
