BJP national president Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati today and addressed a massive rally at the Assam Veterinary Science College playground at Khanapara in Guwahati.

Taking a direct jibe at the Congress, Shah said that the north east is lagging behind in the race of development because of the Congress. Expressing confidence that the party would perform exceeding well in the upcoming General elections Shah said that BJP will win 21 out of the 25 Lok Sabha seats in the northeast.

Shah also said that former Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru left Assam in the hands of the Chinese during the India-China War in 1962 and did nothing to safeguard it
from the Chinese aggression.

Shah stated that the manner in which the Doklam issue was tackled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi sends a strong message that this government will not take things lying down. Meanwhile, he also added that the update of NRC will free Assam of illegal immigrants and that the process will be completed at the earliest.

He further said that to continue development in the region, the party needs to win maximum number of seats from the Northeast. Shah also expressed happiness over BJP’s remarkable performance in the recently concluded Assembly polls in the three Northeastern States of Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya. He pointed out that except Mizoram, every other Northeastern State is being governed by the NEDA.

The BJP national president later met party MLAs and MPs at the Khanapara Administrative Staff College. The meeting was held to chalk out the party’s strategy for the upcoming panchayat polls in Assam and strengthening the party ahead of the Lok Sabha polls in 2019. NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma also attended the meet.
