The Meghalaya Assembly today witnessed an unprecedented scene when senior Congress leader Ampareen Lyngdoh walked out of the house in protest against the State Governor Ganga Prasad while delivering his address in Hindi at the start of the budget session.

Perharps, it is for the first time in the country’s electoral history that any member has staged such a walk out protest against a governor.

Ampareen Lyngdoh stood her ground and told Northeast Live later that it was a violation of the existing rules of the assembly proceedings since English is the official language and no prior notice was given that the governor was going to deliver the address in another language.
