The campaigning for the February 27 Assembly polls in Meghalaya and Nagaland ended at 4 pm on Sunday, 48 hours before the close of the polling.
While as many as 369 candidates from 14 political parties and independents are vying for the 59 Assembly seats in Meghalaya, in Nagaland 195 candidates are in the fray for the historic polls.
The curtains slowly descended on a lively and hectic round of campaigning by all the political parties and candidates for the February 27 polls.
The last day of campaigning for the 2018 Assembly elections did not witness a flurry of frenzied activity as most of the parties in both Meghalaya and Nagaland had wrapped up their campaigns by Saturday.
Adequate companies of central paramilitary forces have been deployed in both states to ensure peaceful polls.
While in Meghalaya the Congress is trying to retain power with the NPP, BJP and other regional parties pushing hard to form government, in Nagaland the battle is between the NDPP-BJP alliance and the NPF.
Campaigning has been intense in both states with parties indulging in verbal battles in almost every constituency. Results of the polls in both states will be declared on March 3.
