The BJP-wing of Meghalaya has accused Director General of Police SB Singh and few other police officers of campaigning for Chief Minister Mukul Sangma.

The party has lodged a complaint in this regard to Chief Election Commissioner of India, Om Prakash Rawat asking for Singh’s removal.

Rawat and a team from Chief Election Commission’s office are on a visit to the State to assess the poll preparedness of Meghalaya and met leaders of all political parties.

It may be mentioned here that the DGP along with some other police officers have been openly campaigning on behalf of the Chief Minister of Meghalaya.

The matter has been reported widely by the media, the BJP said in its complaint, which was handed over to the election commission team by party national spokesperson Nalin Kohli.

A similar complaint was lodged by NPP to the Chief Election Officer a few days back accusing Singh and another senior official of campaigning for the Congress. However, the campaign was later withdrawn.

Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner O P Rawat said that the election commission is yet to find any evidence as far as the complaint is concerned but it is looking into the matter.
