In yet another instance of ushering terror in Jammu and Kashmir, terrorists stormed the family quarters at Sunjuwan Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir early this morning and fired indiscriminately

In yet another instance of ushering terror in Jammu and Kashmir, terrorists stormed the family quarters at Sunjuwan Army camp in Jammu and Kashmir early this morning and fired indiscriminately killing two troopers and injuring seven others including a civilian.

The two jawans succumbed to their injuries after being shot at by the terrorists in the morning. It is believed to be a fidayeen  attack by Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists, the first such  attack in Jammu this year.

The area has been cordoned off and a joint operation by the Army and police is underway. Schools within 500 metres of the camp have been asked to stay closed by the district administration.

The military station, spread over many acres, lies in the heart of Jammu along the Jammu-Pathankot highway. It has residential quarters as well as schools inside. The terrorists used the rear side to enter the camp.

Heavy security has been deployed at all entry and exit points.

There were intelligence inputs about possible attacks in the state, and security forces were alert, but there was no specific information that they would strike this station in Jammu.

Jammu IGP SD Singh Jamwal told media persons that though the number of terrorists is unknown, security operations are underway. Suicide attackers had targeted the same army station in 2006. Twelve soldiers lost their lives and seven others were injured.
